Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap)

REDCap is a secure web application for electronic data capture, created in 2004 at Vanderbilt University. It allows researchers to develop customized data collection instruments (online surveys), single or multi-site data collection and management of the research database. It supports FAIR data management by allowing data harmonization upon data entry, using standardized terminologies, data validation and quality control. These features support researchers to enhance the interoperability and reusability of their research data. REDCap is widely used in clinical research worldwide, however, manual data entry is often linked to a high workload and increased risk of errors. MeDIC enables automated ingestion of health care records from the hospital information systems into REDCap and thereby streamlining the data capturing process. To further enhance the interoperability, MeDIC developed an advanced solution to export clinical data in FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) format for national and international data sharing.
