Description

OSCARS brings together world-class European Research Infrastructures (RIs) in the ESFRI roadmap and beyond to foster the uptake of Open Science in Europe.

The thematically oriented RIs are part of the five Science Clusters (Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Photon and Neutron Science, Astronomy, Nuclear and Particle Physics), which have strived to enable Open Science by providing FAIR data management policies and practices, and by contributing to a model of federation for thematic services that support both disciplinary communities, multidisciplinary initiatives and the wider public with harmonised models for access to data, tools, workflows and training.

Today, the Science Clusters are an integral part of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) initiative and, through OSCARS, they continue to contribute to its development and implementation process.

BI-K is mainly involved in the OSCARS project ARTICYST. The ARTICYST project seeks to enhance the prediction of clinically relevant outcomes in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), the most common genetic kidney disease with more than 7 million people affected globally. Prediction of future kidney function loss at a young age is crucial to support patients in major life decisions. By leveraging Open Science practices, the project aims to develop a comprehensive infrastructure for data integration and predictive modelling, supporting patient decision-making and improving therapeutic strategies. The collaboration between two clinical partners and the integration of new data types will drive advancements in understanding and managing this prevalent condition.

ARTICYST: Devising Open Science Practices to Promote Research and Treatment in Cystic Kidney Disease

ARTICYST is dedicated to advancing open science in the field of cystic kidney disease by:

  • Developing and implementing open-access research protocols and data repositories
  • Fostering collaboration between clinicians, researchers, and patient communities
  • Enhancing reproducibility and transparency in scientific studies
  • Promoting the use of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles

The project also supports training activities and workshops to empower researchers and clinicians with the latest digital tools and methodologies, ensuring that scientific advances translate into tangible benefits for patients.
